What Is the PADI IDC?

The PADI Instructor Development Course is divided into two key components:

  • Assistant Instructor (AI) Course
  • Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) Program

You can choose to complete just the AI portion or continue with the full IDC to prepare for the PADI Instructor Examination (IE)—the final step to becoming a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor.

Already an instructor from another diving agency? You may qualify to enroll directly into the OWSI program, streamlining your path to PADI Instructor certification.

What You’ll Learn During the IDC

Over approximately 10 days, the IDC at Pyramids Diving Center focuses on developing your ability to:

  • Conduct skill development in confined and open water
  • Supervise and ensure student diver safety
  • Organize and lead courses with confidence

Course Requirements

To enroll in the PADI IDC, you must:

  • Be a certified PADI Divemaster (or equivalent)
  • Have at least 60 logged dives (100 dives required for IE attendance)
  • Be a certified diver for at least six months
  • Hold a current EFR Primary and Secondary Care (CPR & First Aid) certification within the past 24 months
  • Submit a medical statement signed by a doctor within the last 12 months
  • Be a certified Emergency First Response Instructor (can be completed during IDC)
