Sharm is a good destination for novice and learner divers, with many easily accessible coral gardens that offer safe, shallow water and excellent visibility. This area benefits from the shelter of the land, which means conditions are usually calm to moderate and ideal for those new to diving. Our partner dive centres offer the full range of courses and meet the highest possible standards. Qualifying dives are often undertaken from the shore for convenience, where colourful corals and seagrass meadows play host to a wealth of marine life, including turtles.

Emergency First Response primary and secondary care training teaches you what to do in the critical moments between when a life-threatening emergency occurs and when emergency medical services arrive. Learn how to perform CPR, provide first aid that eases pain, assess a variety of injuries and illnesses and practice bandaging and splinting. EFR courses are available from your PADI Instructor, but they are not dive courses. They are CPR, first-aid and automated external defibrillator first-responder courses, covering many of the same skills you would learn from the Red Cross or similar organizations. EFR teaches primary care skills for life-threatening emergencies. This includes specific skills for working with adults or children who aren’t breathing or don’t have a heartbeat. The goal of these skill is to sustain a patient long enough for emergency services to arrive on the scene. The course also demonstrates what to do if a victim might have a spinal injury, and how to provide first aid to a person who is in shock or has serious bleeding. It covers how to use an automated external defibrillator, an electronic device that may help restore a heartbeat. In addition to these primary care skills, EFR covers secondary first-aid skills, including assessing a patient’s condition, bandaging and dressing wounds, and splinting broken bones.

The Instructor Development Course (IDC) is made up of two parts – the Assistant Instructor (AI) course and the Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) program. Most dive professionals complete the entire IDC and go on to attend an Instructor Examination (IE), which is the final step to earn a PADI Instructor certification. Successfully completing just the AI course results in a PADI Assistant Instructor qualification. When an AI is ready to progress, attending an OWSI program allows entry into an IE to earn a full PADI Instructor rating. Dive professionals who hold an instructor rating with another diver training organization may be eligible to enroll directly in the OWSI program. This recognizes prior instructor training and provides a path to become a PADI Instructor. Requirements : A PADI Divemaster who has been a certified diver for six months may enroll in the PADI Instructor Development Course. You also need: • At least 60 logged dives and 100 dives to attend an IE. • Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care (CPR and First Aid) training within the past 24 months. • A medical statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months You also need to be an Emergency First Response Instructor, but you can earn this rating during your instructor training. • Organizing a search and recovery project and a deep dive • Conducting a scuba review and skin diver course • Assisting with Discover Scuba Diving and leading Discover Local Diving programs.
